Additional legislation, quickly written and passed by Parliament just before midnight, is aimed at protecting state secrets and giving the Lego Republic's military any possible advantages as the global security situation continues to deteriorate.
Known as the Protection of the Military through Economic Measures Act (PMEMA), the law bans LR firms from supplying military goods or technology to the governments of the PBR and Empire of Legoland. It is also illegal for these companies to do business with any private security firms based in the PBR or Empire.
In a separate section of PMEMA, all representatives of the governments of the PBR and Empire living in the Lego Republic have been asked to leave, and all expatriates from these countries are now subject to increased government surveillance. This move is widely seen as retaliation for the PBR's targeting of LR transportation infrastructure this week and the Empire's missile tests near LR territory.
The Department of Defense also announced two new contracts up for bidding – one for a new ship, the other for aircraft. In order to provide incentives for LR businesses to innovate for the benefit of their country, tax breaks have been offered to companies that provide the military with advances in technology.
"The corrupt government of Chancellor Brik refuses to listen to the wishes of its own people. Brik seeks only to maintain his own power and denies the rights of liberty and democracy to the citizens of PBR. We have urged his administration several times to pursue peace, and we were ignored. Until Brik is willing to work towards a diplomatic solution to this minifigitarian crisis, we will not do business with his government," said Hanover.
