In a fast-paced chain of events (the details of which are still muddled), acting President Hawk fled to the newly established region of East PBR and was declared persona non grata by Brik's regime. Pro-democracy protests formed in the streets of the PBR, rallying behind Hawk. The former army general now leads a coalition consisting of ordinary citizens who have taken up arms, as well as a contingent of the PBR armed forces. The military has split in half: the elite GI Fig division and the Third Infantry back Hawk, while the BlackBrik security firm, Third Marines, and National Guard are fighting on behalf of Brik.
Brik's regime has become increasingly authoritarian in recent months, culminating in a deal with the Empire of Legoland dividing much of the continent between the two countries. Both the Lego Republic and Federation of Legopolis were excluded. The recent call for democracy comes as the government becomes unresponsive to the needs of its citizens.
President Marie Bricks has announced that the LR will stay out of the conflict at the present, but left open the possibility that the country could intervene in the near future. She also raised the military threat alert to "orange" status.
"The PBR is once again in crisis; the lives of innocent minifigures are in danger. Since this is an internal conflict, the Lego Republic will not intervene at this time. We urge both sides to work together towards a peaceful solution that will protect the rule of law and minifig rights," said Bricks in a televised statement.
A heavy military presence has descended upon Bricksburg; units of soldiers have been seen training in parks and security around government buildings has been strengthened. It remains to be seen whether Bricks intends to deploy forces overseas or offer military support to either side. Due to the geographic proximity of the PBR and Lego Republic, the president will most likely conclude that the LR must do something about the conflict, according to experts.
